Adaptability up, down, out and back has ordinal number 40. It's one-sentence description is:
"Capacity can be scaled up, down, in and out".
When a facility has scalability in all the directions up, down, in and out, then the capacity of the facility can be increased or decreased both by measures acting on the facility itself and by deploying more or less instances of the facility. For example:
- a VMware farm can be scaled up or down by adding or removing memory from the VMware hosts, and out and back by adding or removing servers to the farm.
