Description
This Building Block Type belongs to Working Area Server (SE). A Stream Casting facility offers digital information in "streams" to one or more clients, so that these clients are constantly receiving information (although the connection between facility and client may require packetizing of the stream for transport). The Media Streaming facility also handles any data processing that is necessary prior to the streaming itself, e.g. compression and/or transcoding. Streaming is mostly used for multimedia content like digital audio or video, and for the communication streams in a "call" (whether a person-to-person digital telephone call, video telephony or teleconferencing).
