Description
This Building Block Type belongs to Working Area Storage (ST). This facility operates at the lowest data abstraction level, that of the "raw bits" level, storing sets of elementary data elements, such as the bits and bytes on a hard disk. As such it underpins the retention of data at higher abstraction levels.
This facility offers the basic operations of storing, retrieving, modifying and deleting data. When more "intelligence" is needed with respect to data retention, then this facility needs to be paired with a Retention Engine facility.
