Description
This Building Block Type belongs to Working Area Server (SE). A Stream Transformation facility can convert and convey streams between clients that are unable to transfer streams directly from sender to receiver. This may be because the receiver doesn't understand the streaming protocol, or because they cannot set up a direct circuit between them to transfer the stream over. Furthermore, Stream Transformation can integrate streams from multiple sources so they can be sent to recipient(s) as a single stream, as is necessary for applications such as teleconferencing.
Examples of facilities that use (a.o.) Stream Transformation are
- digital PBXes that interconnect multiple formats for telephone or video calls, such as VoIP and ISDN,
- facilities that provide teleconferencing.
