Description

This Building Block Type belongs to Working Area Server (SE). A "time" facility can serve as a source for accurate time information. Most often, this means an "NTP server" that provides the actual time (date and time with a resolution of a millisecond or less) using the NTP protocol, but other protocols (SNTP) could be used, or even other time information. As an example of the latter, consider a "stopwatch" service, that receives calls from a client, and on the second call signals back how much time has elapsed between the first and second call.

As a means to classify whether something is a time facility or not: the facility must

  • provide mainly information directly related to the current time;
  • guarantee a certain accuracy of this information.
