This page defines the meaning of Element type "standard".

An Element type of "standard" prescribes an established norm or requirement. This Element thus establishes uniform technical criteria, methods, processes and practices. The standard that the Element describes must map unambiguously to said norm or requirements; if at all possible, a standard specification should be referenced, such as IET RFC's, IEEE documents, ISO standards et cetera.

Note that a protocol is a special version of a standard.
