This page defines the meaning of Element type "hardware".

An Element type of hardware prescribes a piece of hardware that is instrumental to the delivery of infrastructure services. Make sure the description of the Element lists the particular qualities of this specific piece of hardware that influence the delivery of the service.

Examples of hardware Elements would be:

  • a server platform, because we standardize on this platform and have ample spare parts
  • a particular ISDN adapter card, because it is on the supported adapter list of a particular software solution
  • a class of hard disk, because that class can withstand certain environmental influences (e.g. ruggedized)
