Description

This Building Block Type belongs to Working Area Middleware (MW). A Service Register is a facility that stores the definitions and metadata of (software) services. It can be consulted by other IT facilities, but may also be consulted by end users as well. The facility could be seen as (a specialized version of) a Structured Data Store, but often needs to be modeled separately for clarity.

The facility also can provide an integrated modeling environment for defining services, data types, and other design objects in a standards-compliant manner. In that form, it is mainly applied in IT-landscapes that are based on a Service Oriented Architecture to support and automate business processes.
