This function aims to replicate stored data that resides in one (logical or physical) storage location to another one. |
Description
This Generic Function belongs to Working Area Storage. This function aims to replicate stored data (either raw, loosely structured or strictly structured) that resides in one (logical or physical) storage location to another storage location. Thus, it can be used
- to migrate data from one location to another, if the original data is deleted after successful replication,
- to create a primary copy of data, for archiving purposes (this is functionally the same as data migration),
- to share data between locations by creating a remote copy,
- to create a secondary copy of data, e.g. for backup/restore purposes (this is functionally the same as creating a remote copy).
When used to create a secondary copy of data, Data Replication can be used to protect data from nearly all types of incidents, such as accidental or wilful damage done by clients/users, corruption from software problems (including malware), and even major problems with storage services, such as physical damage to storage facilities.
