The Address Lookup function serves lookups from a store of connected names and addresses. To this end, it accepts a piece of data, and then consults a structured data store to return one or more related pieces of data. This function is most often used to model directory lookups, name resolution and fixed data conversion schemes. It is therefor regularly found in the following infrastructure facilities:

Description

This Generic Function belongs to Working Area Network. The Name Resolution function serves lookups from a store of connected names and addresses. To this end, it accepts a piece of data, and then consults a structured data store to return one or more related pieces of data. This function is most often used to model directory lookups, name resolution and fixed data conversion schemes. It is therefor regularly found in the following infrastructure facilities:

  • Name server facility, where it connects names and addresses. In this case (e.g. DNS server), this function forms the main functionality;
  • Message Handling facility, where it connects sender/destination names with message addresses.
